Yes, has to do with a hormone of course. Vasopressin is a hormone that is secreted based on the salt concentration of the blood.
This hormone regulates the production of urine in the bladder. It is secreted by a gland located in the brain. The higher the salt concentration of the blood, the more vasopressin is secreted – which makes the kidneys pull back more water into the blood.
Then we start feeling thirsty even though the body has more than enough water. It must keep the amount of salt and other mineral in certain concentrations, and that’s why when salt increases, the body must dilute the concentration and thus “asks” for water. That’s how we get a signal that we’re thirsty, and the kidneys start holding water instead of sending it out.
When the body retains water, the face, arms, fingers, ankles, legs and feet can become more or less swollen. The kidneys, instead of taking water to the bladder, they keep it circulating through the body. This reduces urination although the body is full with water.
This seemingly curious datum was written as another indicator of the power of hormones. Hormones are not released uncontrollably by themselves, just like that. They are prompted by many of our actions and conditions. What and how much do we eat, how long do we sleep, water, how long and how do we train, the situations we face in life, successes, failures, stress, mental state – all of these cause hormonal reactions in the body. For example take stress. It is not hormonal reactions that cause stress. Stress causes hormonal reactions. Thus, trying to “regulate” stress by taking antidepressants (which cause artificial secretion and suppression of certain hormones, blunt feelings) doesn’t mean that the real cause what makes us stressed has been eliminated.
What we are interested in here is strengthening the body and achieving healthy aesthetic body composition. It is through hormones that weight loss, weight gain, increase or waste of muscle mass is effected. If we wish to control the body in the direction of strengthening it and healthy aesthetic looks, it is needed to precisely control hormones in that direction.
