If you’ve noticed, most labels don’t state that the beef protein powder comes from beef meat. Because most beef protein powders don’t come from meat. Beef is the general term for the cattle group of animals such as cow, bull, and their young. The majority of beef protein powders are derived mainly from remains such as ears, cartilage, ligaments, hoofs, and skin and that’s collagen. Collagen is the main protein in the structure of the skin and other connective tissues. It has a low value in building muscle as it doesn’t contain all the other necessary amino acids (constituents of protein).
Some manufacturers additionally enrich the powders with a cheap amino acid which increases the powder’s weight. It means that the amount of the other amino acids is even lower. Thus it loses even the low effect it has, but it is still touted as protein! It is useful if you train in the beauty salon instead of the gym.
Also, some manufacturers add creatine to these collagen products. A bit of make-up to make it look more gym-like.

The only positive side is that it can strengthen joints, cartilage, and other connective tissues. But won’t be useful for muscle building as whey or casein protein.
If the manufacturer has published the amino acid profile of their beef protein powder, then you could see if it comes from collagen. If it’s from collagen, the main aminos from which collagen is made will be in very high concentrations compared to the amino acid profile of whey protein. And the essential amino acids (the ones that our body can’t produce on its own) will be in very low concentration compared to whey protein.
If the label doesn’t clearly say that the protein is derived mainly from meat or that it doesn’t contain collagen, it means it comes from collagen. Meaning, gotten from the remains of cattle, non-meat remains. In this case, whey and casein protein are by far superior to beef protein.
If the beef protein powder comes from real meat, then it’s effective and we recommend it. It is on you to compare the price of beef protein and whey or casein protein. If it is significantly more expensive than casein or whey protein, and if the price matters to you, choose whey protein, or even better, casein.
